Countdown to Prison Break Series Three

September 15th, 2007

The third season of Prison Break airs this Monday at 7pm on FOX in the US, to follow on Sky One in the UK shortly after. In anticipation of the new series, there are plenty of articles surfacing about the direction the show is about to take - and, if rumour is to be believed, it may well be the grittiest season yet.

And what of our hero, Michael? Well, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette had a word with Wentworth Miller, and here’s what he had to say on his character:

This year is the first time Michael doesn’t have a plan. Is that going to change the way you’re going to play the character this year?
“Well, that’s the good news about a show like ‘Prison Break,’ that it’s not a procedural drama. It’s not a show where the only thing different from episode to episode is how the victim was murdered, and that’s good news for the actor because it means that your character is constantly changing, constantly evolving. I still believe that Michael is a good man on a hero’s journey, but his hands are filthy.
“And the question becomes how far across the line can a good man go before you can no longer call him good? And that’s really rich, exciting territory for me to claim. Plus, you have this dangerous new facility. Michael does not have a tattoo (with hidden diagrams to help him). He does not have a good brother (in prison with him) to help him out of a jam, and I’d like to think that over the course of the past two seasons Michael has become someone to be reckoned with, not only from the neck up, but now, finally, from the neck down.”

There’s also a great feature with Wentworth in today’s Vancouver Province. See for yourself here.

And not to appear bias, we’ve also dug up this quote from Wentworth’s co-star, Dominic Purcell (Lincoln):

“It’s very much like Midnight Express,” said Purcell. “It’s just insane. He just feels bad for his brother. His brother’s in a whole lot of trouble again so he’s doing what a brother would do. That’s what Prison Break’s about. It’s touching on universal themes, that love and uncompromising, unconditional love that two brothers have.”

‘Latin Temperament’

June 12th, 2007

Last night’s gripping finale not only left us with a whole new bunch of questions about the fates of our favourite escapees but also left us wondering just what’s about to become of Michael’s former cellmate, Fernando Sucre. He’s clearly prepared to go to the ends of the earth for Maricruz, but is love enough to see him through? Below is an extract from the current issue (#2) of Prison Break Magazine, where actor Amaury Nolasco discusses just that.

PRISON BREAK MAGAZINE: Adding more depth to him is his love for Maricruz. How has that, and their impending child, both cleared and clouded his judgment?
AMAURY NOLASCO: I would have to say it clouds more than clears his judgment. He’s a really passionate guy. He flies off the handle. Every time I am asked how I relate to him, I say “in no way!” It is funny – we are completely opposite. There is a saying my dad taught me. “Saint that doesn’t love me, saint that I won’t pray to.” If I was Fernando and I had somebody doubting my love for her and how much I mean to her – if you are doubting it, you shouldn’t even be with me. Fernando is a passionate guy and loves his girl more than anything. We’re talking breaking out of prison even before the baby. It is clearly clouding his mind because he is prepared to go to any limits and beyond that to be with Maricruz. I enjoy him because I would love to be able to love somebody the way he does. Of course, I love my mother more than life itself, but I’m talking about a significant other.

If you like what you read, Issue 3 of Prison Break Magazine (pictured above) is due out within the next week. It’s going to be a 100-page special and includes a feature on the show’s most shocking moments so far, as well as interviews with the actors behind some of its major players: Michael, C-Note, Mahone and Haywire.
